Image optimization from scratch!

One of the best ways to learn something is to try and build it from scratch. That's what I've attempted last year with image optimization. Instead of picking a third-party service, I built one from scratch... and open-sourced it! In this talk, we will live-code a simple image optimization HTTP handler and talk about the challenges I faced along the way.

About the Speaker

Andre is a passionate developer from Germany and the author of Full Stack Web Development with Remix. He lives in Cupertino, California, and works at Neon. Andre enjoys learning, writing, and teaching about web development, and he organizes All Things Web events in San Francisco. In his free time, he enjoys eating good food and spending time with friends and family.

Technical Leadership in the world of AI Coding Agents

For the past couple of weeks, I’ve really started using Devin for coding. I’ve been using it in some of my work at Convex. It’s an “AI Teammate” that can do coding tasks for you. I’ve been fairly impressed. It’s really piqued my interest for a variety of ways, but most interestingly in a philosophical way.

About the Speaker

Nipunn is a software engineer at Convex, building a serverless backend abstraction that empowers frontend and product engineers to manage data without backend expertise. Previously, he spent eight years at Dropbox (2013–2021), working on sync engines, developer tooling, and team leadership. He also maintains mypy-protobuf and has held engineering roles at Talaria, Microsoft, and MIT Lincoln Labs. He earned his BS and MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon and is based in San Francisco.
